I once went to a David Maister seminar and I want those 8 hours back

David Maister makes a case for firing people via email, no doubt leading to hours of high fiving among Radio Shack executives.

Fortunately Maister's readers are fully formed humans and thus wiser and more decent.

Dingus is the first thing that springs to mind. Dingus, Dingus, Dingus. I suppose if one chooses to think of employees as resources/property - then sure, fire by email - make it completely detached, but I'm going to call you a gutless coward weasel f*ck. But I'm mean like that.

Dingus seems about right.

Once you make the decision that it's OK to fire someone via email, you really have lost something as a leader. Good luck motivating your workers! Good luck inspiring qualities like productivity, loyalty, or confidentiality! Good luck with those Maister "principles!"
